She sustained serious head injuries and bruises all over the body and is reportedly battling for life in hospital.
The incident occurred at around 11am on Wednesday last week at the 180km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road.According to the police spokesperson for Masvingo province Inspector Phibion Nyambo, the woman whose name police could not immediately ascertain jumped off a moving Toyota Hilux belonging to the Roman Catholic Church, Ngundu parish.
He said the car was being driven by Pamiri Jongwe (29) who is employed by the church as a driver.Jongwe was driving towards Rutenga and he stopped the car and picked up three passengers at Lundi business centre along the road.
One of the passengers who boarded the car was a woman who sat at the back of the pick-up truck where there were other passengers.She however stunned some of the passengers who were sitting at the back of the car with her when at the 180km peg she stood up and jumped out of the moving vehicle and landed headlong on the tarmac without saying a word.
The driver then stopped the car and later took the woman to Neshuro hospital where she is receiving treatment.She sustained serious head injuries and serious bruises all over the body.
“We received a case of a woman whose name could not be immediately ascertained who jumped out of a moving vehicle and landed headlong on the tarred road. Her condition is very critical.
“We appeal to people from the surrounding areas who might be missing a relative to go to Neshuro hospital and see the woman,” said Inspector Nyambo.
He urged motorists to avoid picking up passengers if they are not public transporters and lamented the increase in the number of accidents along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road.
He called on all drivers to be careful to reduce the road carnage on the busy highway.
